Penmanship and Time to Get Real

I have seen persons receive pay it forward gifts and the lovely cards that accompany them, I always admire how nicely they are written, and I often think it's a good thing I don't play this game because I would be so embarrassed to send a card to someone with my horrible handwriting. Now for someone involved in Office Administration for most of my working life you would think I would develop at least a decent handwriting but nooooo, it's really bad.

What do you guys call penmanship? here it is the subject in primary (elementary) school that teaches you how to form letters and stuff, any way as a child i remember hating that subject sooo much!! I always saw it as a waste of time, I mean as long as you can understand what I write that's what is important right? So my issue now is this, Isaiah hates penmanship and is giving me the same reasoning!! I kid you not! I feel like such a fraud lecturing to him the importance of penmanship, not to mention that it freaks me out how much of my personality he has.

So one day our blogging friend Donna over at Donna's Story was paying it forward and I told her I would love to play, but but I think I live just too far away, well her reaction was that she doesn't care if i live in Paris! So I await the package that is crossing the seas, when it gets here I will share with you guys of course.

So now it's time to get real, after having kids I always wondered what it would be like to be a SAHM, to be able to spend the formative years with my children, I have been home a little more than a year now and it has been great, but, there is a but, with the recent purchase of our new vehicle I think hubby is under a little strain, so I am ready to go back to work. I also wanted to explore opening my own business but somehow the ideas aren't flowing as they were before and I feel a bit apprehensive about making an investment and risking losing it.

So I hope to be working soon again, for now I will enjoy what ever time home I have left, hopefully it wont be too long, there are some projects I want to complete and start, like my master bath, I would like to install a bath tub, and a really nice vanity, and a new shower stall for that matter, the only thing we added to our shower after moving in 7 years ago is a shower curtain!, also I would really like to buy some out door furniture to finally furnish this area:

So please wish me luck with your thoughts and prayers regarding my job hunting, it's not as easy as I thought. My husband's salary is good enough, but it cant do all the projects that I have in mind. Also extra curricular activities for the kids, the costs can really pile up! Oh and save save save!! I really got to get good at that.

WOW RAXX! We both are totally on the same track. I hate my penmanship, and I plan to go back to work too! I don't think I want anything that's going to cause me a lot of stress but, I do want a little extra to do some things I don't want to bother my husband with. I wish you luck, and you wish me luck. Good Morning.. I understand completely where your at. After staying home for 2 years with the kids I went back to work. My husband made decent money also but to decorate a home, the kids extra cirricular activites and not to mention we liked traveling then too I worked just for the better things in life.. As far as penmanship mine use to be beautiful but I have gone down hill... I just rush to much and need to slow down ;-D

You're in that pic dressed in blue? Where?

Penmanship is important! Tell Isaac I've judged many a person by their penmanship! LOL!

I have nice penmanship and my husband's looks like a kid's. His drives me crazy. When he writes me a card I feel like I got it from an 8-year-old but I can't complain because he writes me cards! LOL!

Sorry you might have to go back to work. Maybe part-time would be good enough?

I like the patio area and can't wait to see what you do with it.

My handwriting is awful! I have friend who have such nice writing, and mine is just terrible. My husband, who is an educator, says that in a few years, no one will care about penmanship anymore because everything will be typed!

I hope you get all your projects done before you go back to work, because you wont' have any time to do them when you do! I never get anything done!

Becky I wish I knew how to draw an arrow on a pic but I cant! I'm behind the lady facing the camera I'm just slightly to the left of her.

LOL!! at your hubby's handwriting! You know we dont have a part time culture here, but we're getting there, I'll look into that too.

Mrs B, I too have a friend with a wonderful handwriting, I ask her to write up cards for wedding gifts etc. I agree with your hubby, the only thing i write really is a short to-do list!

As for my projects it's a double whammy, when i work i can afford it but no time, otherwise time but not enough funds!

Clear rapid handwriting will probably matter for a long, long time (at least as long as computers exist and can lose their power in hurricanes ... )

Clear, rapid handwriting, however, doesn't have to mean "cursive."

Research shows that the fastest, clearest handwriters avoid cursive. They join some, not all, of the letters -- making just the easiest joins, and skipping the rest -- and use print-like rather than cursive-style forms for those letters that "disagree" between printing and cursive.

Hi Raxx!

1. Whats a passy forward thing you were on about? You foreigners have some weird things going on!

2. I love writing. If I had a pound for everytime someone has commented on how nice my writing is I'd have an i phone by now.

Mine came from my english teacher who had a rule that everyone had to write in royal blue ink ( we were also only allowed to write in fountain pen - no biros)apart from those who she deemed to have handwriting that complimented black ink. To do this you had to have your work put up on the wall at least three times.

I was determined to be different and longed to use black ink. I practiced my writing daily, writing out poems and work over and over. I finally was given the priviledge of using black. I have hated blue ink ever since and have a real 'thing' for nice pens and notebooks. But then you already know I'm strange.

Just surfing through. I enjoyed taking a peek at your blog. Good luck on the job search.

Hi! I wanted to thank you for stopping by my blog... I really appreciate it!

You have a beautiful family! Good luck with the job hunting - and, regarding penmanship, mine is getting worse with age! When I was younger I actually had quite nice handwriting, now it's barely legible. I believe computers are the culprit... We type more than we write, so our penmanship falls by the wayside. That's the case for me anyway...

hey! I have been in your shoes. I wish you all the luck in the world

So what your penmanship sucks, you can at least spell, LOL...You're WAY ahead of me there! : )

All the best with your job search. It is nice to have a little extra coming in when there is a list of things you'd like to have it for. I know and I'm forever searching for some means to get that little.

Our children can become much like us as seems the case with your child. Same kind of logic and thoughts.

Keep on the search...but enjoy each day as it is too..
have a lovely day.

I too have awful penmanship. Sometimes I can't even read my own writing! I think it got even worse when I was in college and tried writing very quickly during note-taking time. I used to make my ex sign all the cards because his writing was pretty, lol.

Good luck on your search for work! I was a stay at home mom until my daughter was in first grade and I loved it, but now I go nuts if I am not working.

That is a seriously beautiful patio! Bet you'll do some wonderful things with it!

Deb said...

Hi Raxx, Hi! right back ya! I don't know who rohit is, but not only did I hear from rohit, I got a comment from another I can't remember it's name but it was some weirdo poem that freaked me out. I deleted it. I hope things are well with you and I wish you a great evening. Deb

Like lavenderchick, my penmanship is worse with age. I also use a lot of print with my cursive and just connect them. I'll have to go to that site and see if it's the same thing I end of doing.

About the job. Sounds to me like you would love a job at one of what we call "the big boxes" here in the states. Home Depot, Lowes, they are big home improvement stores. My 3 fave areas in those stores would have to be either the garden, kitchen and bath, or flooring. It would be nice to gain the home improvement knowledge and get employee discounts. Do you have them where you are? Anyway, that would be fun for me, what type work are you looking for?
