Aww mommmm! fried ochroes again!!??

I looove fried (ochroes) okras this morning I went on my usual-after the-rains mango hunt in the backyard and realised that there were a few okras on the trees in my garden, every time I pick fresh ochroes I promise myself that I would freeze them and save them for my Sunday Callalloo but somehow I always end up frying them because I love them sooo much!

Penny I was so hungry to have my fried okras for breakfast that I did not try your recepie but I promise to later this week!
Here they are fresh from the garden.

For those of you that hate the sliminess of okras, try adding tomatoes to it! It is totally not slimey after that!

Lots of garlic!

And ready to eat in 5mins! (I was out of onions!)

This was a one person meal, I ate it all! My kids hate fried ochroes, hubby loves it just as much as I do, had he been home I would have to make 3 times as much!

Ewwwwwww... how on earth does the tomato take away from the slime? I would think it'd just add more! Blechhhhhhhhhh

Forgive Justine because she just doesn't know what she's missing! As we used to say growing up, "Good, more for us!" hahahaha

When I sauteed the okra with the zucchini and onions last nite there was also no slimeyness (well maybe just the tinest amount, but it went away when done). I wonder why? I didn't have any tomato in it either. Clay loved them so much. Seriously, fried is okay, but sauteeing without all the coating is truly the way to get the best flavor. I'm with you, I want to freeze it!

Thanks for showing us your lunch. I might have to cook more okra tonite. :-)

Hugs,
Penny

Well I have to go with your kids, I really don't care of okra. Now my Mom and Dad used to eat it, but I never got a taste for it. How great for you though that you get it fresh from your back yard better then store bought any day. Love fresh from the garden veggies. have a great Thursday.

I love fresh veggies! These look good, but I don't think I have ever had okra. I could probably find it fresh in the local grocery store, but I know I can find it canned. I might have to give it a try sometime.

I've eaten okra, and I've eaten it with tomatoes; it's STILL slimey! But, I understand how you feel.

I feel about brussel sprouts the same way you feel about okra.

You just doin it to people yes! I made weird calalloo last week with no chives, celery, pumpkin, carrot, ginger. Don't ask me what was in it, just garlic, okras, spinach and onions. It was great! Mam forde was horrified when I told her, lol! She promised to blend some seasoning and send with earl next time. The sympathy in her voice was astounding. You get my email???
