My Carnival Let Down!!!

Sigh!! Blogging friends what a big disapointment! My favorite carnival costume designer has launched finally!! I waited until now to make a final decision on which costume I should choose because i had to see what treasures he brought to the masquerading fans this year! But this offering just did not tickle my fancy at all!! I dont know maybe I expected too much, too much anticipation is not a good thing!

I knew he was going afrocentric this year and I am all for it, but let's not forget this is carnival and we like to look PRETTY not just portray the vision and message of the designer who granted wants to win competitions but HELLO? I am the one paying you thousands of dollars so that you can win, so you know what? You need to make me look good!! I mean his past creations were outstaning!! and now I dont know, maybe they have to grow on me, but the previous times I played mas with him, my favorite costume jumped out at me and I was sold immediately, I mean you have to pay so much money for your costume you need to at least love it!

So have a look and tell me what you think, I may very well choose a costume from this guy although they are kind of expensive. At the moment my carnival vibe is melting and melting fast. I have to search the net and costume camps for a costume that really speaks to me, I really thought my search would be over by the time Mac Farlane launched. But alas I have to continue.
Dont forget to tell me what you think of Macfarlane's costumes!

Raxx, I had to come back and ask you, something. I went to the link you posted and I thought Oh, I like the scarlet ibis design, then I saw $8ooo.00 on it,and I thought OMG, so my question is; what do you do with this ? Wear it for one day in a parade, or go to parties in it. I guess you do pay a bundle for these. But, IF, I were going to buy one, I liked that one. Ok, I have to go lay down now and let my heart calm down LOL

Hugs,
Chris

Ok... Here's the deal... I looked at the first designers costumes and thought I saw something I liked but on a closer look... mmmmm NOPE but the second guy offers what I would call Carnival Costumes... I likes Morning Glow & Scarlett Ibis... they are quiet pricie but this is what you do, so go for what you LOVE.. Like Chris said do you wear it any other time? Maybe to our Masquerade Ball in Blogge'ville... LOL

Hope you can find something you truly love soon...

Donna

I can see why you're disappointed. I've never been to Carnival...but to me the costumes should be bright, sparkly, and realy glamorous! His stuff doesn't look festive at all! I can't believe the prices on some of that stuff! YIKES...what do you do with it when Carnival is over? Do you ever wear them more than one year? Are there consignment shops where you can sell and buy them? I'm so curious...how about more info on how this all works!

I can see why you don't like the selections. Interesting, but not something I could see partying in. I like the selection by D Krewe, especially Water.

Raxx! I don't understand. I love the Spirit of Iere costume but, it cost 7,895.00. I'm fainting over here! Would you explain the process of Carnival to me. Do you win a huge cash prize for costumes. I noticed in your header there are many with the same costume. Are you in a group the wears the same style costume or do you do a solo thing. If in a group do you all do a dance routine together that is judged. Please explain. Deb

I couldn't make out the Mac Farlane web page. All I could bring up were sketches! I went to the other and I liked both butterfly and tropical fish a lot. I cannot believe how much you spend on these costumes every year, just to wear for a few hours! Holy geez!

Justine :o )

You need a terrific body to wear those AND they're expensive. There must be more to this Carnival thing than I understand.

Oooh I love all the colors! I couldn't pick just one. I think you should go with the one where you look like a gladiator. lol.

Raxx I'm glad it is you that has to choose and not me. Though I can appreciate the fabrics, designs and workmanship; it is about the pricing. Ouch, they certainly don't give them away.
My favourites were 'Spirit of Iere and Pitchlake', as I felt they were the most FESTIVE. The others to me were almost tooooo ???? ethnic ???? and a tad tooooo ???? serious ????. (Just my humble opinion.)

Afternoon, Raxx. Oh, I'm so sorry you're dissatisfied with the costumes. I really didn't see anything that looked like you - maybe the 3rd one - Sun.

Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
