Should I continue?

Hi all!! My exams are over and it's the usual back-breaking Christmas rush for me, thank you all sooo much for your encouragement during my assignments and exams, I did my best and I hope for the best. Now it's time for my favorite time of the year, we've painted the entire exterior, I was too busy to help choose the color so I entrusted the hubby with it, and boy! did he ever go bright! Ah well, at least it's nice and clean, but ever so bright! I'll show you guys in a later post when the scaffolding and paint cans are cleared away.

That aside, there are a few projects that I decided to undertake at this 99th hour, one is to cover my dining room chairs and hang a chandileer, I decided that I've seen chairs covered a million times on HGTV and it looked simple enough, so yesterday I went over and got me some fabric, I wanted an almost white color to contrast with my dark dining set, because the fabric I bought it with is dark and now it just looks dreary to me.

So today armed with my trusty staple gun and scissors I set about covering my chairs, this is the first one, I am not blown away by my efforts and I feel the need to run to an upholsterer and have him finish the job, what do you think? The chair on the left is the original covering, and the white is what I did today

Above is a close up of my handiwork that is clearly not so handy!

So, should I continue?

Can't wait to see the house color!
I think you're chairs look damn good for the price. hahaha Seriously, they look just fine. I don't see any strings hanging anywhere or anything. It is so much harder than it looks on that shape. Round is easy peasey, that shape can be a challenge getting around those curves. I found that using lots of little folds instead of big ones, and a bottle of good rum helps. Good luck with the rest!

Hi Raxx, ;)

Yeah! I'm so glad you came to visit. I feel like I've known you all along. I should have said "Hello" sooner.

You're right that does look very similiar to our dining room chairs fabric. I like it very much. I think it's a good neutral that goes with the darker wood tones and any color of walls. It's funny when I had our DR posted on RMS recently I had great feedback but alot of the comments were to change the chair fabric to match my dark gold walls. HMMM...
I didn't change them needless to say and I'm glad I didn't now that I've seen yours. I think they look gorgeous! Nice work! Can't wait to see your house painting outside revealed.
Sounds exciting and cool!

Have a great evening. ~Melissa :)

Absolutely continue. No one is going to look as closely as you do, and a professional will charge about $60 per chair!

Of course you need to continue! I love the fabric that you chose. It really does brighten up the dark wood and by the way the chairs themselves are beautiful! Deb

Love the fabric. The first one is always going to be the hardest. Looks like you need to pull the fabric a little bit tighter. You might need some assistance with holding it until you get the hang of it. The great thing is that after you get them all done...you can go back and retry the first couple if necessary. YOU CAN DO THIS WOMAN!!!

LOL well it depends on how long you plan on having this covering last. If you think you are going to change them again next year, I would just go for it and finish them yourself. If you plan on them lasting a bit longer, take them to an upholsterer. That type of chair should not cost much at all to have professionally done.
Congrats on having the exams over. It is good to have you back!

P.S. I only paid $25 per chair for my kitchen chairs and they had to have cording covered so it was a much more complicated job.

Hi Raxx.....love your choice of fabric! Have done my own serveral times and my suggestion is keep going. Practise makes perfect as the cliché goes.
Regarding the CORNERS, my from own experience of trial and error; the less fabric for a turn-under seam allowance is the better (less pleasts/folds/bulk) plus work from the centre (of the pleat)firstly pulling that section of the fabric taut then staple.....then do the side(s).
Good luck, if I can do it so can you or anyone else.

Glad to hear that exams are finished and now you can relax a bit.

Love the chairs!. Just so the color isn't SNURFF blue. Hee. When we bought our home the house next door was smurff blue. It was 3 years before the new people painted it.. When telling people where I lived on the street all I had to say was beside the smurff house. Heee Kathy

Glad your exams are over with. I love the fabric you chose for your chairs too. The first one is always the hardest, but I think you did a terrific job. As you do the other ones you can always go back and redo the first one if it bugs you, but I would be very please if I had done something like that. Good job.

Love ya,
Chris

Hi Raxx WooHoo your all done with your studies and exams, good to see you back and those chairs are gonna look amazing, I love the fabric. your new header is stunning, hugs, Kathy.

Continue and you will get better and better. They look great to me and once people have sat on them they will look as good as anyone elses.
I chose white fabric for mine - but it's this microfibre stuff that is amazing - spills and pen just wipes off like magic.

Now you can relax a bit and enjoy the next few days.

Raxx, off subject......was over at Bridgets and see the message from Santa won't open. Here is the link I had given her. Just do a websearch and the page should come up: PORTABLENORTHPOLE

It is so cute and with you having two young children you may find it interesting and want to do it. It is a personal message from Santa Claus.
You fill in the child's FIRST name, if possible inclue a photo of them, their email address and tick off a few items and Santa will EMAIL them a personal video message. It is very convincing :)

Hugs to sweetie......

I'm so glad you are over with exams. I'm sure you did well.

Aside from the right corner looking a bit bunched up, I think you did a fantastic job! Especially this being the first time you're doing it. And, I adore the fabric you chose! Holy cow, what a difference to the original. I say yes, keep going with it!!!!!

Oh boy, what color did hubby pic girl? You kept saying bright. I've got thoughts of a turquoise house in my head. Although I guess in the Caribbean that's not too uncommon.
